Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director:
Born in Mumbai to a photographer father in 1975, Nitin Kakkar grew up on a staple diet of Bollywood. After gaining experience as an assistant director for Hindi movies, Nitin Kakkar made his directorial debut with the award-winning short film Black Freedom (2004). Since then, he has worked on a number of television projects. Filmistaan is his debut feature film. It received a Special Jury Mention during its World Premiere at the Busan International Film Festival embarking on its international tour; the film won him Best Debut Director at the International Film Festival of Kerala and Jaipur International Film Festival. It won audience choice award at Los Angeles, USA and Stuttgart, Germany. It also won the National Award for the best Hindi feature 2012.
Post Filmistaan, he directed two more films Mitron and Notebook.
My Gut Feel (MGF) and comments:
“Why settle for average when amazing is attainable?”
Above quote defines the filmography of director Nitin Kakkar who in his last two attempts as a movie maker not able to break the shackles and delivered average movies Mitron (2018) and Notebook (2019). Both the films have promising premise and decent production houses to back the film. Although Nitin’s debutant Hindi directorial venture was way above average in the name of Filmistaan which won the National award in 2012. Filmistaan, is one of my personal favourite movies, which was intelligently conceptualized and well directed. No doubt that as a film maker Nitin is brave enough to choose bit off track subjects and he do have a good comic sense as a film maker. Know coming to Jawaani Jaaneman, trailer is awesome and star cast looks impressive. Again, particularly subject is interesting and do resonate with Multiplex audience well. After watching the first thirty second of the trailer, I mumbled, no Saif not again…. But as the trailer progressed, I find it refreshing and then Saif at his age started making sense and well fitted in the plot. Tabu and Alaya Furniturewala are also looking good.
I have feeling that this time Nitin hit the write note by using all his experience as a film maker and delivered a good movie. It just I am bit unsure the post interval especially last 30 minutes where I can foresee film could go weak.
Going by My Gut Feeling (MGF), I am giving Jawaani Janemaan 2.75 of 5 one week before the release and keeping figure crossed for Nitin the director of the film that after a roller coaster journey as a film maker, he does taste the success he well deserved.
